Malini Fonseka Sri Lankan Actress

Queen of the Sri Lanka Sinhala Cinema and veteran actress Malini Fonseka awarded Golden Peacock Award at the 99th International Film Festival of India held in Goa, 2008.

Malini Senehelatha Fonseka was born in 30th April 1947 in Kelaniya. She studied at St Johns College Nugegoda and Gurukula Vidyalaya, Kelaniya. Malini started her acting career as stage dramas with "Noratha Ratha" in 1963. She has played the leading role in 14 stage dramas and earned her first recognition after winning the Best Actress Award at National Drama Festival for her role in "Akal Wessa" in 1969.

Her cinema career which has spanned many decades began with Tissa Liyansooriya's Punchi Baba in 1968. She first earned recognition, when she won the 'Best Actress Award' at the 1969 National State Drama Festival This was followed by Sarasaviya Best Actress Awards for Hingana Kolla in 1980, Aradhana in 1982 and Yasa Isuru in 1983.

Her cinema career has spanned many decades began with "Punch Baba (The Little Baby)", directed by Tissa Liyanasooriya in 1968. After Punchi Baba, in the same year Malini appeared in another three movies including "Dahasak Sithuvili" and "Adarawanthayo". Since then she was offered the leading role in many films by almost every film director in Sri Lanka. She has acted in many international films including Pilot Premanath, a South Indian Tamil movie with veteran actor Sivaji Ganeshan in 1978. So far Malini has acted well over 150 movies in Sri Lanka.

Some of her successful films such as Nidhanaya by Lester James Peiris, Siripala Saha Ranmenika by Amaranath Jayathilaka, Eya Den Loku Lamayek and Bambaru Evith by Dharmasena Pathiraja made her career more colorful.

In 1984, Malini became a film director by directing her own film "Sasara Chethana" and later "Ahinsa" (1987) and "Sthree" (1991).

Later in her artistic career Malini entered into teledrama industry. She made her mark as a teledrama actress in "Pitagam karayo", "Kemmmura", "Senasili Suwanda" and "Nirupamala". She has directed few teledramas too.

Malini has won many national and international awards in her career. Malini won Sarasaviya Best Actress Award for "Hingana Kolla"(1980), "Aradhana" (1982) and "Yasa Isuru"(1983). She also won Most Popular Actress Award in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and Ranathisara Award in 1985. Apart from those she has also earned other honors like President Awards and OCIC awards.

As a Sri Lankan actress Malini won awards in Moscow International Film Festival- Russia (1975) and New Delhi Film Festival-India (1977).

Nathasha Sheleene Perera, well known as 'Sulangak Wee Mang Enawa

Jayakody. Natasha bagged the best actress award for her lead role as Elizabeth Allen-the naughty girl in “Danga Malla Saha Amuthu Iskole(දගමල්ල සහ අමුතු ඉස්කෝලේ)”, an adaptation from Enid Blyton’s ‘The Naughtiest Girl in the school’ in 2003. This has been turned to a tele-series with 25 episodes as "Dangamalla(දගමල්ල)" directed by Nalaka Swarnathilake and screened on Swarnavahini. Nathasha playing the lead role in a new mega tele drama series titled ‘Ridee Tharaka(රිදී තාරකා)’ directed by Lilantha Kumarasiri and produced by award winning actress Damitha Abeyratne. This will be telecast on ITN at 7.30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from November 2. The other actors who will play significant roles are Rangana Preamratne, Ramani Siriwardena, Damitha Abeyratne, Kanchana Kodithuwakku, Sampath Sri Roshan, Prasad Sooriyarachchi, Lionel Wickrama, Richard Manamudali, Ravindra Kodagoda, Saranapala Jayasooriya, Ruvindika Ishadini, Mayanthi de Silva, Jehan Blok, Laskhan Wattuhewa and Wasanthi Shiroma.

Nathasha was educated at Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya. Natasha's talent is not limited to singing and acting. She also participated as a TV presenter in the popular children’s programmes ‘Samanala Uyana’. She is presently hosting a musical programme 'Music Station' on ChannelC.

Dilhani is one of the few who contributed immensely towards keeping Sinhala cinema afloat. Her early roles were confined to commercial films. her ability to dance and her trade mark smile captivated the audiences. She is known as "SRI DEVI" of sri lanka, (Sri devi is a popular south Indian actress famed for her dancing).

Dilhani plays leading role in Prasanna Vithanage’s latest film “Akasa Kusum” (Flowers of the Sky). This is the first time a Sri Lankan film has been picked by an American company for distribution. The film, which won Malini Fonseka the coveted Silver Peacock Award at the 39 Indian International Film Festival in Goa, will be released in Sri Lankan theatres in July 2009. “Akasa Kusum” also won a Jury Special Mention at the Vesoul International Film Festival in France and is currently being exhibited in the world festival circuit.

Her carrier hit a different trail with her role as an abandoned Tamil girl in the film "Me Mage Sandai" (this is my moon) by Ashoka Handagama. This serious role paved the way for other remarkable performances in "SUDU KALU SAHA ALU" (shades of Grey), "Mage wam atha" (my left Hand) "Sulanga" (wind) and "Akasa Kusum".

She has been mixing more commercial fare with serious roles, with her powerful turn in Sudath Mahadivulwewa's "Sudu, Kalu Saha Alu" winning her Best Actress at the Sarasavi Film Awards.

She has also starred in several Tele Dramas of which "Maya Ranga" and "Meeduma" stand out. She plays a major role in the sri lankan movie star show "Ridee Reyak", which is a very popular annual event in Sri Lanka.
